Lab Partners 2006: Server Installation

Here we go! I just finished this: did this using VMWare so excuse the screen shots. I actually thought of making a video but i wasnt sure how to upload it for you guys!

This is my guide for a newbie to MCSE to installing Server 2003 - sorry for you guys who know how to but I was in the same position as these newbies not so long ago and just wish i had something like this.

Now if anyone has problems this thread is here for them!

Good Luck and ill be around to help if you need any!

Thanks to Simon for compressing!

just as a matter of saving time.. does anyone want me to do the win xp pro installation too or are they okay with it? If we all okay ill start the one for Active Directory and DNS installation and adding our client to the domain.

BTW if there is a VMWare newbie out there who cant figure out the networking for VMWare speak up!!

Hi Zim

I have never personally used VMWare before. I presume it is easy to setup? Just a quick run through will be fine for me.

Thanks

Stu

Ok Zimbo I have a question or 2 it may be silly but as I said in a previous post that I am just going to follow along as I am not yet doing this Cert but it will be of interest as I will be some time in the future. Anyway enough rambling I am not sure about the XP pro part should I be running my computer on XP PRO with VMWare installed on that computer. And 2003 Server running on VMWare. Or should I have Vmware installed and have windows XP installed in VMWare and also Server 2003.

Also do I install it in teams or as a single instalation.

I am sorry I think it will be the first but just want to make sure as I dont want to be left to far behind. If I do then there will be no point to me trying to follow along.

Thx in advance George

@law:Sorry if my answer is going to sound a little dumb but here it goes.. VMWare is an application running on Windows XP Pro right? just like your office and antivirus programs : its just a program?

Well you have to install the server using VMWare and the XP using VMWare so basically your lab is on VMWare. Im working on a tutorial for you guys on VMWare so i think just wait for it then install server 2003 and xp pro.

I think you'll find that Virtual PC is Microsofts make of VMWare, onlt it doesn't support Linux very well yet. You will be fine with that, but I wouldn't expect any great detailed help with using it though. I think the majority use VMWare.
