but i am unable to delete or quarantine these files. Does anyone have any advice.

You should be able to determine the full path to the locations of those trojans either in Norton or by using the Search feature in Windows (click Start then click Search, then type the name of the files you are searching for). Once you find where they are, navagate to their actual locations and manually delete them.

If you are using XP don't forget to turn off System restore first. :D

If yor AV can't get rid of them normally then boot into safe mode (with or without networking) and try to disinfect the PC then.

You might want to try booting into safe mode and running your AV software again - often it seems that the files cant be deleted by the av or manually as they are actually in use at the time!

If you're still struggling and you can get on-line try Panda - it usually removes it...

This is what is going on again. I manully deleted 2 viruses I was getting through Norton.
I deleted the files manually and then ran Norton Antivirus again to make sure the viruses were deleted and I got the virus error again but in a different location when I went to searched for the virus file in this other location I could not find the file or location on my computer.

I ran Norton Antivirus in Safemode it found the viruses, I deleted and quaranted the files but after that Norton told me your computer is still infected with viruses.

Can anyone help! What do I next.

OK, download and run the latest version of MacAfee's STINGER

That should hopefully clear it - if it still doesn't, Google for "Trend Micro Housecall" and run that online.

    EDIT: Trend Micro Housecall link

    HTH :)

PF, you seem to be posting the same problem in two or three different threads. Stick with the original one here:

    http://www.certforums.co.uk/forums/thread5724.html

Otherwise, it will be hard to trace down what has and hasn't been suggested and tried. It's easier to keep the same problem in one thread. Thanks.

I'm no expert on this subject but have in the past effectively removed similar infections.

    1. Download hijackthis, install and run. DO NOT install Hijack This to the Desktop, any folder under Documents and Settings (Win2k, WinXP), a temp folder or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file. You will not get backups or could easily lose them if you do not follow these directions. Place Hijack This in its own folder that is safe for storing Backups. C:\Program Files\HJT is a good example. Also do not run Hijack This in safe mode unless someone specifically requests that you do so.

    2. Upload the log file here as an attachment. DO NOT POST THE LOG INTO THE FORUMS.

    3. I'll let you know what to do next.

I use the AVG free edition anti-virus from Grisoft and it detects and deletes the virus you are mentioning. Also if I recall correctly my free microsoft anti-spyware detected it and had a good stab at it. I use Macafee firewall, AVG antivirus and Lavasoft Adaware pro with the Microsoft anti-spyware beta to keep my box clean. I have never had a problem this lot was unble to clean and they all appear to run in harmony on the same system. I think one of the main problems at the minute is some anti-virus programs class stuff as viruses and others class as it as spyware, just my 2p worth :)

You might also want to think about scanning the registry for the string name. I had a similar problem and it was registry entries doing their foul work. Also look in the usual places for startups. It will probably be named differently.
