Just a thought, but I was wondering how employers would view an applicant for an IT job who's also passed some OU Maths & Computing courses?

Although the courses have nothing to do with the IT cert/job being applied for; I'd argued they suggest committment, hard work, discipline, problem solving skills etc. (The degree is being done for several reasons).

Would it give one an advantage? What do others think?

Although I have also wondered whether an employer might think; will eventually move onto something else (though OU degrees take several years)?

Very favorably, most employers would rather see OU on the cv than some training provider.

OU counts as higher education and certifications tend not to.

It's all good though so I put everything down.
I list my OU stuff under 'education' and certs as 'professional qualifications' or 'courses'.

Although a single OU course doesn't technically count as a qualification in the way than an A level or degree does, you're quite right and it could set you apart from other applicants who haven't done any personal development.

I agree :) When looking at a CV, not only do I (& I'm generalising other IT managers too) look for technical skills, but also soft skills/other skill sets and knowledge that may benefit the dept.
