Thumbs up Hello all, another new signing..

Hi everyone, i'm another newbie looking to start a career in IT.

After reading through this forum I have decided to self study.

I have had experience with computers from an early age (C64) through to the present and have built and fixed many PCs as a hobby/for friends.
I have worked in a small office where I was responsible for keeping the PCs working (7 + 1 server), however this was not an IT role.

I am now looking at the best and cheapest way to get certified so I am employable. I would like to be an IT support Technician.

I have just ordered the Study guide for the MCDST 271 exam, so I am going to start with this book and exam.
I have also looked into the CompTIA A+ exam.

Is this the correct route to take? Do you think I would be better off doing the A+ first?

Thanks in advance for any advice,
I look forward to contributing to this great forum.

Joe.

The usual route for entry level IT jobs is A+,N+ and MCDST

The A+ consists of two exams one mandatory one called Essentials and one elective.

The N+ consists of one exam

And the MCDST is two exams.

You can get the books yourself and study on your own so there is no need for an expensive training provider.

You also do not need to wait until you have all of these certifications you can start looking for a job now and put in your covering letter and cv that you are studying these certifications this will help in finding a job.
