    I have to ask this...

There have been a few people that are trying to enter the IT field saying that they wanted to do the CCNA or higher. So I wanted to start this poll seeing how many people here actually administer Cisco kit, have Cisco kit (support by 3rd party or another person/dept) or don't have Cisco kit at their place.

I wanted to get an idea of the state of play here :)

Us personally, our whole network infrastructure is done on HP technology. We only have 1 Cisco router which is provided by our ISP for internet access, they support it, we don't.

Not used it though I have come across it at client sites but not had to take responsibility for it.

Have been considering/wondering about CCNA myself

Unfortunately not in our shop, since it is a small repair shop/retailer. Some of our customers use it though.

At my last job, I administered all the Cisco routers on our network. I don't administer the production Cisco gear at Boson, but we've got quite the test lab!! ;)

All HP here, we have a couple of bits of Cisco kit that are managed by the LEA as it links us with the rest of the education network. They have remote access and passwords to get directly into the Cisco stuff, i do not.

I use Cisco stuff but don't support it, that is done by the IT edpt and a 3rd party.

There are 5 sets of switches in my department. There used to be more but when it was upgaded 2 were not needed anymore.

Got a mixture of Cisco, Juniper and HP routers and switches. Mainly use CIsco for internet connectivity - which is managed by the ISP - but do have a couple of switches in the data centre and some local switches around our offices. Most of our internal switching is handled by HP gear - half the price of Cisco, easier to use and more reliable. Firewalls are Juniper, as is our SSL VPN.

For my sins, I do all of it - though most of the heavyweight Cisco stuff (BGP etc) is handled by the US

Same as Zeb, most (90%+) are HP switches, the rest are Cisco.

And although I have my CCNA, I don't personally administer the Cisco kit.

Yup, I do the third line support for a business park that has some Cisco kit and I work on it remotely. Full published class C subnet onto 50 VLANS and also a wireless network. Must admit I’m fairly nervous when making changes! CCNA definitely next year! :biggrin

Also various Cisco routers on other customer sites but most of our enterprise level kit is from Checkpoint with HP switches.

All of our sites are on MPLS with an ADSL backup line. All Cisco routers and PIX's. ISP will do the initial config of the MPLS routers and then we support them from then on. ADSL is all done by us.

Main site has Cisco Wireless LAN and HP switches. Mainly suported by moi and my old support manager, but it has become quite apparent he doesn't know as much as he thinks he does so I have almost donned the networking hat for myself.

My work are putting me through my CCNA, starting within the next couple of weeks hopefully 8)
