I must say i'm impressed with both thier minimum system requirements LOL
32 MB for VPC and 128MB for VMWare

im guessing thats to run the program and not actually perform its main function :P

first time i read that... but im glad i tried VMWare first up. Im real happy with it even though i have only *seen* Virtual PC in action and i belive it now supports Linux doesnt it?

hope no one minds me bringing this thread up again...I am now thinking of trying these out as I have a 64bit dual core machine just asking to be abused and was wondering which one you guys would recommend...or is it possible to get them both and test them? what with getting a new job, I need to get my hands "dirty" with the likes of SBS and Exchange Server (which I have copies of) and also see what both VMWare and Virtual PC have to offer me...thanks all

Hi mate, you can download Virtual PC for free from the Microsoft site.

There is a trial version of VMWare to download from their site.

Thanks AJ...looks like VMWare certainly asks alot of questions about wanting the Workstation so I will leave that one for now and work on Virtual PC...will download VMWare when I start me new job...

I use virtual PC, no complaints so far. I have all the Windows Operating systems from 3.1 to XP running and also SBS and Server 2003.

After setting how much RAM the virtual PC is to use I only had to enable the CD drive so I could boot from it, easy!

Me: You need to buy a couple of servers.
Customer: Whats wrong with the servers I have?
Me: Well, you dont have *any* servers just now.
Customer: WTF! I thought I did!

Hi Folks..

I've just been reading some of the threads but why is there VMware Workstation and VMware Server?

What is the purpose of both. Is VMware Server required to install the likes of Windows 2003/2k/Exchange etc and VMware workstation required for XP/2K/ME etc?

Can both VMware Server and Workstation be installed on the one host machine?
