Cool, but kind of intense. Also, it looks like the header takes a lot of vertical space, meaning there'd be less available for the page's actual content (without scrolling down, of course). While you want your header to be attractive, this one is positively captivating and may actually take the viewer's eye (no pun intended) away from what you actually want them to see.

That said, I do find eyes to be very visually appealing and a toned down version of this might work better. Also, are you putting an eye there just for giggles, or does it have some sort of thematic relevance to your site?

I like the look of it so far, but would like to see the whole page to get an over all effect. Please let me know when you have that up.

Trip, I belive Nelly is a graphic designer by trade so their sites tend to show that more then just regular website. It is another form of showing their skills.

Many thanks for your replies trip and mitzs. And yes, i do agree about it being to vertical. And toning it down a touch would be less eye catching. And the eye thing.......well, i didn't have any reason for that, it's just that like you... i do think it has that visual appeal which is what i wanted, being that this is my portfolio after all.

I will post on here again when i have the finished composition (mock-up).

Thanks alot, neil

It looks very cool to me, i like the use of greyscales and blue only too. My only slight concern is with the choice of that broken capitalised font for your name logo. It works but i wonder if that is the 'best' look you could come up with

Good luck

I like it too. As pointed out, it could be a little too large vertically.

Many thanks again for your replies. I will certainly deal with the size of the header and have a little tinkle with a few other fonts for my name. I did try a few different fonts as i was designing it, and this one kind of struck me. But i will see what else i have?

Cheers all

Neil

Apart from the points already addressed by others (though I quite like the font), I think the blurring on the portion to the left of the eye is overdone. It looks so un-natural it draws attention away from the eye after the initial glance. I would crop out the eyebrow too, which would also help with the required reduction of the vertical dimensions. Nice work, though. I used to have a business card with a similar design.
