Tablet PC's

Does anyone here use tablet pc's?

I was taking a look at some stuff about them, and was looking for recommendations for good (preferably relatively cheap) slates.

Not really sure I'd want one with a keyboard to be honest, as I understand it, it shouldnt be too much of a drawback not having one.

listen boi, I know where you live. Dont make me come over there and b*tch-slap you. I may be aching from wii fit and wii sports, but i can still give you an ass-whoopin'.

Seems like all the tablets around are in the business market, and as such priced quite high. Anyone got one they want to get rid of?

ooooh. nice

Not too bad a price either. - downside is that it doesnt ship outside the US, nor does it accept non-US cards. *sigh*

I recently had to play and create images for the HP tablets 2510b which are in my humble opinion light weight and not recommended. This is purely based and judged from my experience as performance wise they come short.

We had some tablets for the docs and nurses to use at my last job. Let me tell you, not having a keyboard felt like I was computing with an arm cut off! Totally sucked.

For the cost of one of those tablets, we could have bought three or four desktops or two laptops.

No keyboard? I thought they were built just like a laptop? WTF? I'd kill someone over my keyboard.

A true tablet has no keyboard. I'm like you - I love my keyboard; thus, I didn't dig using a tablet at all.

Hey Mike can you find me a pic of what you are talking about? When I goggle Tablets Imagies, all it comes up with is Pills, the laptop kind, and the wacom tables that people use for drawing. I liked to see what one of those look like.

This is what we were using... without the keyboard attachment: Fujitsu link

Some tablets are really laptops with a swivel monitor to enable tablet operation, but they're not as slim as the "true" tablets: Dell link, Toshiba link

Tablets - Great toy for the execs. Light weight and no keyboard to get work done with. Best of all, for the ones with a keyboard, just takes a few turns, swivels, snaps and *poof* - it's broken and a IT issue

The ones with a keyboard aren't bad, but if you're always going to use the keyboard, it pretty much defeats the purpose.

Yep... in that case, you might as well buy a laptop for a much lower price.

I quite admire the slate tablets, I think they are awesome tools when matched with the appropriate application

natural note taking strikes me as one of them (using evernote or onenote)
when I'm back at my desk plug it into the cradle and have a keyboard attached

I got to play around with one of the motion computing LE1700s (the one BillG uses) and I loved the thing, bit out of my price range though
have been eagerly eyeing up a Modbook though

damn. Those LE1700s look good!

The thing is, with the tablets, you have the natural notetaking. Which would be handy in my chinese classes, among other things. But theres also (for the characters) the fact that it can do character recognition on handwritten characters - perfect for trying to perfect writing a character.

They actually look interesting. But I don't think I would really have a use for one of those. I can actually type faster then I can write. So I think I will stick with my keyboard. I can see where a dr would like them though.
