I've just completed the three day ITIL course and all I can say is thank god thats over! I have never been so lost in meaningless terminology as I have over the last few days!
I don't even know if I passed the exam as they havent released the online version of the exam yet so it was paper based!

Ahhh, so you get to really tie one on then and not have to worry about finding your hotel room later.

Lucky you, at least you got to go on the course (however judging by what you said, that may not be a good thing ). That's a course & exam I'm going to have to do soon... Let us know how you get on when you get your score, you'd think that they would have an online test as it's an IT Service Management cert

I know v2 was a computerised test, perhaps they've been lazy and haven't written on for v3 yet? How long has v3 been out? Not long I think.
It's the journey that matters, not the destination.
Aims:
70-271: Dec 2007 PASSED!
70-272: March 2008 PASSED!
ITIL v3 Foundation: June 2008
Net+: July 2008
70-270: Nov 2008
Ah ITIL, work are sending me on that in may, tbh I thought about cheating and studying it before going on the course. We already do the change management stuff but anything else will be totally new to me. still its another buzz word to put on the CV if I pass.
Yerrrrk, You to Simon.... Horrible wasn't it? I too sat my ITIL v3 paper exam yesterday. We only finished covering the last part of the course at 2.15 pm and our exam was at 3.00pm!!
It was just so heavy on business terminology. I would have much rather done a course on something technical!
Its just the waiting game now, I'm not sure how I done, fingers crossed. I did make the fatal mistake of going through the paper after I had finished and changing some answers.
Need Beer, yeah I had a few list night, ITIL will drive you to drink.
Best of luck to you simongrahamuk, fingers crossed for the both of us.

Reason: its early
With the current talk of more senior IT managers being more immersed in the business side of IT as well, I think it could be useful - especially when they start handing down work/jobs that are more based around the ITIL principles.
I guess also it expands your portfolio when looking for new jobs, if any company/business/government department is looking to go down the ITIL route at least they won't have to train you up.
That said, my company is forcing all of the managers to go on this course also - from the 3 managers I've seen after they've been ITILised they've ignored all the principles and are still managing the same way they've always done.

Yeah, nearly everyone in our company has to be ITIL compliant at my company as we work on ICT for government organisations. I don't think its a bad thing to have on your CV and will be essential for understanding most of the documents flying around my company at the moment. The course should be renamed "How to speak ITIL" IMHO

As it is just a matter of terminologies, is it worth going on the course?
We are going with an ITIL compliant helpdesk later this year and have to be foundation qualified, but I don't fancy the 12 month tie in that comes along with the course, especially when it isn't something I would choose to do.
To Do List of 2008:
70-294 - Early Jan 2008 - PASSED
VMware VCP Course Early Feb - VCP Qualified by Mid / Late Feb? PASSED
70-293 - Originally Mid Jan 2008 (Didn't take) Done Early April. PASSED
TS 70-620 and 70-297 by Aug 2008
CCA by Christmas? Start Studying for 2008 Upgrades
EDIT : Now Studying Exchange 70-284. Deadline Aug 2008 instead of 297.
A friend has just got his ITIL foundation and he did it "self-study" way, a couple of texts and then took the exam separately - saved him a load of money and isn't tied into his company for any period of time.
The part where you "have" to be ITILised, if its a requirement I would have thought the company couldn't hold a year over you?
