Lightbulb Apple certified ?
Hi guys,

Firstly I just wanted to apologise if posting this is inappropriate but I thought you would be the best people to come to. I've been searching for an experienced Apple Certified support specialist for a really important client based in South West London, England. As you guys have or are undertaking the certification I was hoping you could help ?

If you or someone you know would be potentially interested or if you have and questions please feel free.

There should be no shortage of Apple experts in London!

But expert in what? Or is it just an all-rounder you are after?

Have you asked Apple? Have you looked in any mags?

There are certainly plenty of Apple experts around but there doesn't seem to be as many that have the certification who are looking for work in this area right now. My client needs someone who is Desktop and Portable certified, and has DTP application knowledge as well as extensive networking knowledge. Is there a recognised search facility with Apple?

Surely if they are expert then the cert is not important?

Or is your client somebody who insists on the cert? In which case he may have quite a search on his hands.

Can't help with any search system at Apple. But there are a few Apple users on here who may come bu and comment.

That's what I thought but I think they would prefer the certification over the actual experience! Thanks for your assistance !

Nope, that's not how it usually works in IT. Experience is most always preferred over certifications by employers.

Then your client deserves what he/she gets. Sorry, mate... getting someone who is certified without experience is simply asking for trouble.

It's a strange request really- there are different levels of Apple Certification, and an "Apple Certified Support Specialist" could be an entry level ACSP- or ACTC; but they most definitely will not get an ACSA without experience in any case (and without paying a high price). An ACSP or ACTC could have little to no experience on the field but it wouldn't be worth much at all. As an Apple user for the past eight years and someone who supports Apple equipment daily (including OS X Server) on a large network integrated with Windows systems and servers, I am only just studying my ACSP/ACTC track. I can tell you that there is no way I could have gotten this far without my experience.

Perhaps the prospective employer should consult the Apple Consultants list and get some support that way before hiring someone without adequate experience? Just a thought...

Good idea...!

Are there many certified Apple people about who have, say between 0 - 5 years experience do you think?

There must be junior / med level people who are Apple Certified in this area!

How come not many people have it anyways?
