Move out of home.(depends on job and how things go. might end up a goal for 09)
Decided to make this official and pin it, I think its good to have our goals at in the front of our minds lest we watch them float on by!
So for me, its going to be an interesting year, a lot of my official goals for 2k7 did not happen, or at least not to fruition, that said most of them are well on the way and plenty of other things were accomplished
so.. 2k8
Short Term Goals (In progress, early 2k
Pass my driving test (Lessons have been going on for a while now, test is hopefully early next year)
Finish MCSE 2k3 (yeah last years goal i know, I have 2 exams left, watch this space!)
Mid Term Goals (All Year)
Pack up shop and move to the US
Develop my side business
Improve my professional network
Try oh so hard to learn some basic programming skills
Long Term Goals (2k8 and beyond) Increase investment portfolio
Buy a house
Start a degree
I have a few others, and some reallly long term life goals but I wont mention those here
It's important to set your self not only goals but some attainable time frames to do them as well, and I feel a year is often too long of a window, so by shortening some of those goals to '1Q' I box myself in a bit more and force action sooner rather than later
What are your goals for 2k8? and how did your 2k7 goals turn out (if not already posted in the 2k7 thread)
Short term (relatively) goals
Finish writing/editing my current book.
Get back to writing some book reviews (so I can reduce the piles of books stacked in my office).
Join a gym and increase my exercise regime (stuck at a plateau in my weight loss program).
Longer term professional goals
Get back to learning "Python for non-programmers" with an eye on learning both programming principles in general and Python in particular.
Consider my next "major" project (which may be a book or a long-term self-study project...after taking a break).
Get hired on with my current company as permanent, full-time and continue to hone my help authoring skills.
Longer term personal goals
Begin teaching my Bible study class in January (through May...take a break over summer and back at it in September).
Get down to my ideal weight in 2008.
Focus more on reading for both personal and theological growth (I *am* in the middle of Stephen Hawkings "A Brief History of Time" which I've always wanted to read, so have a leg up on this one).
Probably more items to be added or at least modified as time goes on.
You know, I wish my parents played Mozart when I slept because half the time I don't even know what the heck anyone's talking about!
N+ - Apr 2008
70-271 - July 2008
70-271 - Nov 2008
Dec - 2008 Take stock and decide which route to go for system admin.
Work
Move into a office where I don't have to share a phone.
Work lots of Hours
Get another years worth of work experience under my belt before applying for another job.
Chilling
Drink more Beer, get in touch with some old friends, invent a automatic beer filling glass either that or train the girlfriend to pour a decent pint
MCDST - only 70-272 left and I'm hopefully for the end of February
70-270 and Net+ by year end - not sure in which order yet - a poll on CF may follow later
Change jobs, either a server support role, or maybe something along the lines of system management.
Decide whether I want/am able to stick with my current company or whether I'll need to move on to progress.
Personal Goals
Get fitter and lighter - use to run quite a bit but I've made a push for the last cert and have dedicated much time to it.
Practice my photography more - my dSLR has been sat idle for the past month or 2, I want to start exploring that more.
Keep in contact with my friends better - been really poor on that recently also!
Make a serious attempt to become a trustee board member for a local charity.
Crazy Goals - 2008 onwards
Crazy goals for the future:
Wait for the credit crunch et al to kill the cost of houses and between now and then making a good stab and building a nice deposit.
Get my MCSA, then MCSE.
Maybe have a peek at Server+ or Security+
Get some exchange experience.
Find some IT management experience.
Look at getting ITIL qualified, Prince2 qualified..........and at some point be a Technical IT Project Manager.
Many years later, look at either MSc in some IT based degree or an MBA for the business side.
CIO and sitting on board of directors for a company somewhere!
It's the journey that matters, not the destination.
