Accessing IMAP
Hello,
This is probably pretty straight forward, but it has me puzzled. I have setup an IMAP server on Exchange and it works fine within a local environment on private IP's. I can't seem to access the IMAP server from the outside world though. I have tried using the public IP of the mail server in the IMAP client but it doesn't seem to work. I also noticed that I can only assign private IP's to the server in the system manager. Is this the norm?? Could someone point me in the right direction please! Have you forwarded the IMAP ports on your firewall (143 or 993 for secure imap) to the mail server?

The firewall is managed remotely so I can't say for sure. I have tried to telnet the mail server on port 143 and the connection times out so I guess the port is closed.
I shall have a word with the firewall dudes and check the status of the port. Thank you  Printed on 100% recycled forum posts.

Ok, firewall port 143 has been opened. I can receive IMAP mail using the public IP of the mail server.
I can't seem to receive email if I use imap4.domain.com as the server name though. Do I need a DNS entry for this to work? Cheers Printed on 100% recycled forum posts.

yea you will need a DNS entry to access the server by name, that's if you are trying to access the server from the internet (not intranet).
