OK so now I feel alone!

So here I was chuffed that I had just passed my N+ and was looking forward to getting into the Server+ forum where I could pick some brains and get ahead of the game....hmmm then I notice that the last post (non-pinned) was a YEAR ago!! ouch!

Now there has got to be others that have just taken or are about to take the Server+.....

The other CompTIA exams don't seem to be nearly as poplular as the A+ and N+.

I think it's about time some people changed their Christmas avatars.

I'd love to study for the Server+, infact I've read the book, it's just the cost of the exam.........

If you don't know the answers, at least know where to find them!

I've started on server+ (slight lack of books on it I've noticed) but have been side-tracked by my work.

I'm currently sitting in a hotel on a 4 day course costing my company about £2000 on something completely different.

When I get a chance I'll get back to Server+.

But the studying has already been useful. Before I started I knew nothing about FibreChannel, and a query came up internaly that involved it. So I got plus points for knowing a bit about it!

Harry.

Good luck for January!

I'm hoping to take my exam the second week of Jan '07 after going on a course (5 days) the second week of December '06

I have found that after any course I go on I need 3-4 weeks of home study time to get my head around things!!

On another note -

I know that you can 'Port' across some CompTIA exams to get Microsoft Certified qualifications, I know that you can use A+ & N+ towards an MCSA and also use the Security+ for the MCSE Security specialisation but does anyone know if you can use the Server+ in any way?

A+ & Server+ together can be used as an elective for the MCSA 2000 & 2003 only (that I can find).

The Security+ exam/cert is the only Comptia qual that can be used alone as an elective that I'm aware about.

Hi,

Hopefully this will help you, I got the info from a website but now can't find it (closed the browser before I got the site name):

The Server+ exam covers four operating systems: Microsoft Windows NT/2000, Novell NetWare, UNIX/Linux and OS/2.

You should begin preparing for the exam by reviewing the Server+ Exam Blueprint (Test Objectives), Server+ Concepts and Skills document and the Server+ Job Role Description, all of which are available at www.comptia.org/certification/server plus/index.htm. You may also want to review the Server+ white paper (available from the same page) to see where Server+ fits into other certifications that you hold, and how CompTIA believes the certification will help you.

The Server+ Exam Blueprint gives the basic objectives of the test. The Concepts and Skills document lists specific technologies that a candidate is expected to be familiar with.

The seven major objectives are:

Installation
Configuration
Upgrading
Proactive Maintenance
Environment
Troubleshooting and Problem Determination
Disaster Recovery
Technologies to Know

In addition to the areas identified in the Server+ Exam Blueprint, you should be very familiar with the technologies listed in the Concepts and Skills document. Specifically, you’ll want to know about:

ATA/IDE (AT Attachment/Integrated Drive Electronics): a good reference is available at http://www.storagereview.com/guide/g...standards.html.

SCSI (Small Computer Systems Interface): a good reference is available at http://www.storagereview.com/guide20...csi/index.html.

PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect): this is the primary Server bus. An understanding of hot-plug extensions, as well as peer-PCI (PCI buses connected directly to the CPU via the Northbridge support chip) vs. Hierarchical PCI (PCI to PCI bridges are used) is required for exam preparation. A good source of information is www.pcguide.com/ref/mbsys/buses/types/pci.htm.

Also found this website: http://www.examguides.com/
It provides crib sheets of hot topics for various exams, Server+ being one of them. However it can't tell you specifics as each exam is different a pool of questions so what 1 person may get alot of another person may get nothing.

Anyway hope this helps.
