Problem - Windows 7 network issue

Hi all,

not been on here for a while, so i do appologise....

I currently have Windows 7 Ultimate running on my machine at present (custom build, Asus M2N-E SLI,AMD Athlon 64X2 4800+, 4GB PC2-6400 Crucial DDR2, NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTX).

My router is an 02 Wireless box 2 (Thompson TG858 v7), which can be accessed and controled via web interface.

My problem is this...intermittently my OS sees " multiple networks" in Network and Sharing centre, thus my pc cannot use the router as a gateway to the internet(its IP address is APIPA), even though there is nothing wrong with my connection from router to internet. I can use the wireless connection from the laptop no problem, i have tried a known good brand new cat 5 cable from router to pc = same.

here is a list of what i have tried.....

disable NIC/enable = same:
ipconfig /release then renew = same:
flushdns /registerdns = same:
known good cable = same:
reset router = same:
NEW router = same:
tried wireless connection from laptop = no issues (laptop XP Pro), connects and can access internet.
netsh winsock reset = resolves issue.

now i know what your saying, "you know how to fix it" , well yes thats true, however i shouldnt have to be resorting to this... has anyone else had this issue??? Does anyone know what it could be that is causing this?
Can anyone even throw me a bone on this/shed some light????

Any responses would be greatly appreciated,

Hello Sparky.
I do not know if you have seen my thread about a similar problem.
My case, my windows 7 ultimate pc was constantly loosing connectivity to the internet but all local network resources were fine.
After trying so many things, my problem seems to be solve by letting my pc request its IP address from the DHCP server, which is my Cisco 1721 router. After this, it never lost internet connection again.

Why is it's IP address APIPA?

It should not be, that is a self assigned ip address

What is he refering to as APIPA? The internet or the router?
I am a bit confused. If it's the router then just like Bluerinse has mentioned, it should not be APIPA.
It should be normally a class C IP address and manually set.

hi guys,

to clear up any confusion, the PC has an APIPA, as mentioned, i can get a wireless connection no problem from the laptop.......so the IP address on router is fine

Presumably he means it is assigning itself the APIPA address as it's not picking up a DHCP address.

looks like an IPv6 compatibility issue, i have unticked IPv6 from my network card properties and this has resolved it.....
