The British Computer Society's Young Professionals Group (YPG) is dedicated to providing representation, services and a support network to all BCS members under the age of 35.

As one of the largest member groups in BCS, the membership body of the YPG is diverse, representing over 20,000 young IT professionals from many countries: all at varying stages of their careers and with a wide breadth of skills and specialisations.

Each Branch will have an appointed YPG Committee Member. Branches (UK) cover the following areas :

    bcsbranchlist.jpg

and you can head here to check out the links to the branch websites. In some areas the YPG is very active so contact your nearest branch for details of activities etc.

The YPG also has it's own website which can be found HERE as well as being represented on Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube (ypgtv).

So, if you're under 35 (i.e. not an oldtimer like me :p ) why not find out about YPG ?!

25 and I will cling on to anything that can be used to claim youthfulness for as long as humanly possible! :p

(yes I do feel old at 25, probably something to do with running a footie team full of 18 year olds and a drama youth group of 12-18 year olds...)

I'm a YPG member, but not much seems to happen in my area... I'll pop on to the website, to see if there's something I'm missing.... :)

Its funny how quickly you can go off someone isn't it . . . .ha ha

No you made me laugh really. Q's totally off subject but how long did you study for 621. I wasn't gonna do it but after reading some threads, the fact I've passed 620+624, I might be abe to get this one relatively easily so I'm tempted . . . .

Uh, 'bout a month iirc (check my sig for specifics).

Wasn't too bad, and I quite enjoyed it actually. I went totally overboard on the studying for it though which probably pertains to my scores (got 967 on part 1 (620) and 970 on part 2 (622).)

I wrote a study guide if it'll help ya. It can be found here - Link

Nope. You'll need to sit 622, and not 621 (as you don't have the MCDST pre-requisite).

Qs is near Birmingham, and they (stunningly) don't even have a YPG rep. I think his nearest will be Coventry, and I've bashed an email off to him today to see what's what in the area.

Quite tempted to see what's required of applicants for the YPG role, tbh...

You volunteer to join the branch comitee and then once on that volunteer to be the YPG rep. They have conferences and other events and are quite focused on the development of young IT professionals in terms of their careers. According to the formal rules for branches the YPG rep :

    • Liaises between the Branch Committee and the YPG Executive Committee, as well as representing the
views of the young professionals within the Branch.
    • Arranges and publicises YPG events, provides details of special offers and YPG Projects.
    • Creates local Student chapters, within local universities.
    • Attends YPG Congress on behalf of the Branch Committee.
    • Liaises with other Branch YPG Representatives.

Go for it girl ! :biggrin
