What is the board view option assumptions?

I personally use "threaded view" so that at any point, I could either start a new branch post thread for my own train of thought and step by step troubleshooting/explanation thread. However, I understand that under "linear view", the distinction of a "separate branch" is lost and so it may seem like I might be "repeating what was already said." I believe that was at least a possible factor in the "confusion" that led to the branching off into a "personal attack" nature recently that was taken care of.

I believe that this "difference of perspective" may also be a contributing factor to argumentative threads that get out of control because linear view removes the distinction of who's replying to who and especially if the reply fails to use the [quote] button then any reply post that is contrary to ANYONE in the thread becomes a contrary statement against EVERYONE in the thread making the thread resemble a brawl instead of a relatively civilized discussion thread.

So the questions are:
  1. Which thread view do you use?
  2. Does that thread view bias you towards your thread view or against the other thread view perspective?

My answers are:
1. Threaded View
2. No, because it's clear who's talking to who and who's responding to who in threaded view. I can understand that translating threaded view to linear view may cause some to think that someone's just being redundant.

1. I use the default (linear) view I don't see any point in changing
2. I don't think the view makes me bias towards my thread as I read all other replies before posting.

I can agree that the Threaded View may help. But its not necessarily clear who is replying to who. First off, Those in linear view (including myself) often click on the quick reply button of the last post, in order to make their post. Generally I only click the button on a specific post if I intend to quote that post. I suspect that you will find the same true in some of those who use threaded view. so its not always clear.

Personally, even in threaded view I think its important to read all the replies before posting. After all, whats the point in posting something thats already been discussed and (possibly) discarded.

Hecate Guides, but you dont hear me preaching about it! Now p*** off and leave me be.

1) Linear
2) I'm not really biased for or against a certain view... but when you reply twice in a topic with the same information, it just looks like you're repeating yourself.
