How about peeps posting some pics of their home labs?

I'm lucky enough to have my own Server Room (the wife got pissed off with my stuff cluttering up the place, kicked me out of our spare bedroom and made me get the cellar all tanked out and turned into a proper room for it all)

Most of my servers are clustered in one corner:



Luckily enough I have a mate who's a sparks - when I got the room tanked and had the electrics put in he stuck a new 32-amp radial on my fuseboard

Next to it is my main monitor for all my servers, along with another load of workstations, all ferretted away behind my guitars and amp:



Finally, my main workstation, with my lappy next to it - which runs BackTrack Live (a Linux security distro based on SLAX) and, last but definitely not least, my PS2, which, sadly, doesn't see as much use these days as I'd like cos I dont have time.



Oh, and just round the corner - though you can't see it, is my bookshelf - with about 500 tech books on it (the wife DEFINITELY wanted them out the spare room!!)

That is one set-up! Are you sure the monitor for your main workstation is big enough?

like i said i got 2 machines with vmware... hosting about 7 Vm's right now.... just a DSL router with a 4 port switch... located behind the left speaker...

dont laugh its my setup!



and thats not the only books i got... the bookself (proper one) is one the other side...

I can't find the pic I thought i had of my set-up, so i will take one in the morning with natural light and post back here.

At the moment its got Parallels Desktop on it with a w2k server and an XP machine. I need to get more memory so that I can run more stuff!

Some set up, very impressive.
im working up to suggesting to my wife that i can set something up in the spare rrom but i think im on to plums. prob have to make do with the cupboard.

btw, if i was to download, sorry, buy another operating system to tamper with, which one would be best suited to my laptop. im running windows xp home edition with 512mb ram, 1.73ghz processor.
and how do i partition my drive.

Hm - for most people my mantra is "Don't change the OS on a laptop unless you are an expert"!

If you want to mess about then the *first* thing to determine is "Do I have a restore set of CDs?". If not either get them or seriously reconsider what you are going to do.

If you decide to go ahead - the best alternate OS for your laptop is one that the manufacturer makes drivers available for.

I i installed Ubuntu on my laptop although on a spare drive i had without problems
