    Hi all,

Im new to posting on this forum but have been viewing as a guest for a while now and have to say that the advice given seems to be really good. No doubt like a lot of you guys I have been into PC's for a long time and fixed them for mates and family but now I'd like to try and get into IT as a career (despite being close to 40years young as I am:wink: ) it seems that the general advice for newbies is to start with certs from Comptia like the A+ and Network+. I would also like any opions on the merits of courses such as this one http://www3.open.ac.uk/courses/bin/p12.dll?Q01D39 from the OU. Would such a qualification be of any use when trying to gain employment in the IT industry? I also realise that I will face the old Catch 22 situation that no job=no experience and no experience=no job!. However seeing some of the success stories on this site does give me hope!

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to reply

    Hi Andy,

The diploma looks a well structured course, although after a quick comparison of the two, I would say the knowledge gained from the Comptia courses would be more useful day to day and when looking for a job.

    Hope this helps.

    Si

Hi Andy, welcome to CF. Certainly don't be put off with the age thing. You can get a start in "the later years" , as I have proved myself - and I'm far from the most senior person here (no names, no pack drill !! )

Hope we can help along the way :)

    G'day young Andy.

You have to remember that some things, like a good wine, just get better and better with age.

Life begins at 40, I can confirm that, as my life began eleven years ago.
