Smile Quiet here isn't it? <grin>

<Treads carefully in fear of disturbing the dust of ages>

Having now polished off the ECDL I'm back to CompTIA, and decided that i-Net+ was the next one to get, as it links in fairly well with things I do at work.

The CompTIA web site lists just one book (plus two other lumps of courseware), but enquiring at what used to be the 'London University Bookshop' reveals that they haven't stocked it since 2002!

Checking the 'net reveals a paucity of books covering the current objectives, plus some very mixed reader reviews of the one official book.

So what books do people advise/recomend?

Harry.

I did iNET as a foundation for my CIW.
It's quite good actually.
I searched for books but likewise found it a bit difficult...
Personally, I would stick my neck out and say that if you are up to scratch on something like N+, then you ought to breeze it.
It's actually heavy on networking, cables, protocols, transmission speeds etc.

Can you hear an echo?

Thanks for that! I'm glad it wasn't poor search technique on my part that failed to find much in the way of books.

The objectives look fairly extensive - but it isn't clear to me (so far) as to how much depth is required. But I am beginning to get a suspicion that it isn't very deep!

Harry.

I have gone through the whole book now. If you think that was quick it was because, as mentioned elsewhere, I already have Network+ and much of the material is familiar to me.

At work I have built and maintain web-sites which link to back-end databases, and have set up ODBC connections for people.

My main gripe with the book is the lack of editing, which leads to some erroneous info, and in one point a lump of text in the wrong place! I am also fairly sure that one of the questions in the test at the back has a wrong answer - in that the explaination doesn't fit the answer given!

One thing to bear in mind about this book is that it isn't complete. The intention, particularly in the HTML area, is that you should do lots of work learning HTML outside of the book, although it doesn't say so!

This was brought home to me when I tried the example questions on CompTIA's site, which asked about details not mentioned in the book. And if that isn't official guidance I don't know what is!

Harry.
