The future of the I.T. Career

Just starting out in the I.T. industry and there is so much contradicting comments going on. For example this article talks about outsourcing and what type of skills will be needed:

People are saying there is a lack of I.T. workers out there/graduates etc and this article talks about so much technical certs but not enough business side of things. Its all so confusing and contradictary. Anyway views on the future of I.T.?

What should an aspiring I.T. worker be doing to get all these business/technical mix of skills so much desired?

I haven't read the article, but the thing that an aspiring IT worker needs to do is to get that first IT job and start building experience. THAT is how you get the skills that employers want.

There is no one answer - just as there is no one answer as to the meaning of life (ignoring 42).

Some companies outsource. Others don't because they think they recognise the downside to doing that.

Some are hiring because they have the cash and need the extra help. Some are on a hiring freeze because they think they are well enough covered and are being cautious, and some are shedding jobs because they are either loosing money, or fear they might.

You will *never* get a consensus of opinion.

If you are good you will get hired eventually. (Believe that!)

I agree with BM. As a starter in IT you need to get an entry level job and start gaining experience and a feel for IT. It’s a vast vast subject with so many areas to specialise in.
