You don't necessarily need any certs when starting out in IT.
That said, A+ and Net+ are the ones I would aim to go for when starting out; however, anyone looking to study Net+ should either have network experience in the real world or have some sort of test LAN at home.
Having studied for the Sec+, I would suggest that it is not entry level and you should get some networking and security type experience under your belt before attempting it.

are those 3, the ones that out of all the comptia certs, they mean the most (have most value) or credentials
the others just seem to be 'gap fillers' waste of time unless you actaully wanna specialise in it. for e.g. the project+ has about 4 posts on the topic (in this forum), no one would waste thier time when they could go after a prince2!

CompTIA specialise in entry-level certification. No one just starting out in Project Management should consider the Prince2 IMO. That's as sensible as entering IT and thinking your CCNA is a one-way ticket to greatness but that's not what you were asking, so swiftly onwards...
I would say that the most commonly possessed Certs are the A+, the Network+ and the Security+ certs. I am not sure how in-depth to their specialisations the others go, however, I have personally treated them as a good way to 'dip your toes' into a subject matter, to see if it is for you.
I have looked at Project+, and have considered studying a few of the others just to allow myself an entry-level route into some of the conversations at work! If only they had a Lawyer+ cert...
The three most popular CompTIA exams are A+, Net+, and Security+. Although CompTIA recommends experience before any of their exams, A+ and Network+ could be completed by anyone with little or no experience. Security+ covers a lot of ground and could be very difficult for someone without experience.
If you are looking for a third exam, I would suggest one of the MS exams like XP Pro, Vista, or MCDST.
What is said above is right on target. Although the A+, Network+, and Security+ are the most popular CompTIA certifications, you should pursue only the A+ and Network+ without experience. You should wait on getting the Security+ until you get a bit of network admin experience. After all... entry-level techs aren't tasked with administering networks, much less securing them!
