OK thanks alot guys, thats deffinatley given me a bit of confidence I think ill give what u guys said a try. Also there is a vue exam centre down the rd from me that does the comptia A+ exam, do you book an exam via them? Any other tips for selfstudy? Its been a while (4 years) since i've studied anything so im a bit rusty. Also are there any good places to look for IT jobs in the north west once you've got qualifications?

I'm a pain I know I just like tou be double sure about stuff before I do it. Expect to hear more from me!

Thanks alot

I use lancaster uni as my test centre. All you do is register with vue on their website and pick your nearest test centre for the exam.

You can get discount vouchers from gracetechsolutions.com which basically mean you dont have to pay vat for the exam, you just enter the voucher number instead of your credit card on the vue website. Make sure you buy international discount voucher as the other ones are not valid in the UK

Sounds good to me! Cost is a real issue at the moment so I'm weighing up my options. My other main issue is confidence. I know I could pick this stuff up (if my dad can fix a PC any one can!) and I have a genuine interest in the field its just the confidence aspect. I'm workin on it tho. Whats the best way to gain practical experience, so I know I'm doing the right thing. Also is there anywhere where you can get past examples of the exams for practice?

A good way to study is to get yourself a cheap PC you dont mind breaking, then just practise and play around removing components and reinstalling them etc.

Most good study guilds ie Mike Meyers 6th edition will have some free total seminars test for you to test your readiness against, there are also some very good Trancender software with practise exams available for a small fee.
