Agreed, the company cannot tie you in for something that is mandatory...for them!
Having done my ITIL foundation, but being capable of a pass before doing the course - I can confidently say it is far from just a terminology course.
Some companies really would benefit from being ITIL compliant, or at least close to it - there are some good underlying principles behind it.. but if you're a techie, then it's never going to be as interesting as tearing a server apart from troubleshooting routers - is it?

Just had to point this out (as it was pointed out to me numerous times on the course),
you can not be ITIL compliant. There is no such thing.
ITIL is a framework that you adapt to your own needs, it is not a standard that you have to be compliant with.
Still no results yet......
