There is an unsecured wireless network - just called "wireless" that we keep picking up....do you reckon it's a trap?
I'd love to connect and send them a warning to tighten up their security, but who would do something like that these days?....unless it was some form of "bait" lol....sooo tempting!

Why don't you sniff the traffic signal and find out where it is originating from? That way, you don't even have to connect to their network.
...you might even find that it's an unsecured rogue AP on YOUR network! :o
Connect to the network and run an IP scan and see who else is connected to the access point. See if you can UNC onto the C: drive of the other users PC. Write them a letter about how poor their wireless security is and place it in their startup folder..

There are still ignorent users who have absolutely no idea what they are doing. They have a computer, the son of the neighbours installed it and the only thing they do is playing online games.

That's too true Tinus. Lost count of the number of peeps who I have "educated" about the vulnerabilities of unsecured wireless connections that they have simply plugged in straight out of the box and never read the accompanying literature. Sometimes I feel like the harbinger of doom

why switch it off when you can just switch to something with a very small footprint? i use avast takes like 500k of memory, hardly a drop of a drop in the bucket.

Because to a lot of home users a small footprint belongs to a child not software. They have no idea what those terms mean in relation to software. And for some ungodly reason homeusers tend to think that Nortons and Macafee are the best on the market. I guess advertising does pay.
