Would you advise me to read the Meyers book first or try the questions that come with it to test my current knowledge First? Maybe I havent just memorised the questions on the transender CD....
Yes read Meyers book first. make notes, revision

The reason i asked about the workshops is that they normally go through the requirements in detail and you get access to more practise questions.

the A+ tests you on your breadth of knowledge not your depth... memorising past question wont help.
Doing past question will help you to extract required information out of the questions (added with knowledge ) to select the best answer.. sometimes it takes a while to get used to the style in which the questions are written

I'm currently studying for the A+ essentials exam with advent. The training manual I received IS the Essentials element of Mike Meyers book, and I'll assume the 602 manual will be Mike meyers as well.. Sounds like they've changed very recently.

They did change it recently, one of the guys on my last workshop days had started the course a long time ago and then life intevined (as it usually does). When he went to do the mocks they told him to hold off and let them send him the new Mike Meyers book, and as he only took the exam recently the change must have been inside the last 3 months.

The new books are effectively the newest revision of his book which has been changed slight (by Meyers so I am told) to reflect the new two book format.

First off try not to panic about not understanding the deepest parts of theory and worrying that no matter how hard you hit the books that you don't yet see the world in Binary code instead try to use the transender tests to see where you are weak and then target that area. I found it very good for that kind of thing. Another useful resource I wound was the A+ for dummies work book, which as it sounds, is a book full of questions for you to answer. I found by using that and then cross referencing the bits I didn't know it helped.

Above all ask question either of the mentoring team at advent, the course tutors directly or here. There are lots of sources of information just make sure you ask the questions and use the tools available.

Good Luck!

I took the Technician exam at the start of the month and that was using the Meyers one provided by advent. I also saw some of the guys turrng up for the Essentials with the new books, as for the change I was guessing so ask them!

You are correct we have recently started using the Mike Meyers books, but as this is a new material we are still checking its benefits.

The material you have is valid, up to date and relevant to every aspect of the course you are taking. So unfortunately in this instance we will not be able to supply you with the Mike Meyers book.
It does'nt matter because i own the meyers book, i was going to give my copy away thats all.
