prerequisite for virtual client to log on 2 virtual server

I guess the prerequisites are te same whether you use vurtual or not but.

Firstly I know nothing about networks.

Do I have to have active dir + dns setup to log on the the win03 server?

are there any other prerequisites?

Well, your IP addressing has to be configured correctly for a start. Also you need to make sure your PC can resolve the internal domain name so DNS is very important.

Thought you were doing the MCDST mate? Sounds like you are trying to race ahead...

I have the four virtual PCS I use networked together but not in the way you want to do it, there is a setting on the VPC console (can't remember what it is called) and it allows you to connect all the consoles together as if it were a network.

sure the setting you refer to is on "Shared Networking (NAT)".

I just want to be able to have a client log into to the domain. dam it, i set this up once on another pc and worked fine (was a fluke) .

When i did it previously i created a user in active dir so the client xp client could log in, and was fine.
Now i set up on this pc the same thing (i think) and wont log on to the domain.
There is basic stuff i have missed for sure....

What happens when you try and log onto the domain?

a domain controller for the domain school could not be contacted.

ensure that the domain is typed correctly.

If the name is correct, Click details for troubleshooting info.

Make sure the IP address for *DNS* on your virtual PC is the IP address of the domain controller.

If that doesnt work log on locally to the PC and type ipconfig /all at the command line and post the details here. Should be able to sort it!
