I know one or two people have mentioned about the ITIL exams going online. Well, here's the confirmation...

Is it worth getting? Work have mentioned that they want me to do it but it looks like a waste of time from what I've seen. At least now hopefully I won't have to travel to London to do it so thats one plus point.

Sorry mate... missed this.

It's boring as buggery... but yes, I believe it is probably worth going for. ITIL seems to be the way a lot of businesses are moving now. You don't need long to study for it, and you should be able to do it self-study too, unless your emplyer is willing to pay.

After the Foundation, you then have the 'opportunity' (should you wish) to go down various routes to become Practioner-type ITIL certified.

My emplyer has advised they are happy to fund my going for the higher ITIL certs. Plus, they have suggested Cobit as well. I may miss that one though.

Well I've done foundation and the Service Desk and Incident Management practitioner.. I would say they're worth having if you intend to move into Service management at all..

For the practitioner, I know there are separate "sections" to it, as you've done two of tem, does that mean an exam per section? I ask as I know squat about it

It's the journey that matters, not the destination.

Aims:
70-271: Dec 2007 PASSED!
70-272: March 2008 PASSED!
ITIL v3 Foundation: June 2008
Net+: July 2008
70-270: Nov 2008

Service Desk and Incident Management may sound like two, but I believe it is one certificate. There are also Problem Mgt, Change Mgt, Config Mgt, Release Mgt.... and so on.

Funnily enough, there is also a part of the ISEB portfolio that specialises in IT Architecture - it's the Solution Development & Delivery one from memory. Now that 'may' appeal more to some of the techies out there...

Service Desk and Incident Management are indeed one certificate.. I could have done the others but missed my oiginal foundation date (which you have to have to take a practitioner).. shame as I'd have liked to do the problem and change ones..
