You *really* need to learn how to use the IOS. Consider this a prime learning experience!

w00p w00p...

added dns settings to dhcp pool and works...

Thanks for the help guys...

Now onto the second Router...
This one I can't even get an IP via DHCP.
I can telnet through a console connection though.
Anyone got a good link for some basic commands so I can get and IP then load the SDM up to config.
I've followed a few through but cant get anywhere, theres alot to take in all at once.

Hello again folks...straying off thread a little again, but you may have an idea!

Going mad trying to configure my wireless printer...

Main router is 1.2.3.1 netmaks 255.255.255.0
Router can ping printer 1.2.3.3 netmask 255.255.255.0, gateway 1.2.3.1
So I know printer is on the LAN
Router can ping laptop 1.2.3.2, 255.255.25.0, 1.2.3.1
Laptop can ping router & other wireless PC on the same network, so LAN is working.
Laptop can NOT ping printer!
Get Destination net unreachable (laptop running Vista)
PC can also ping router, laptop, when ping printer get:
Request timed out even with -w 10000 parameter! (PC running XP)

Laptops, printer get IP addresses etc via DHCP on router.
Router is using NAT to connect various PCs to internet

Turned off laptop & PC firewalls - no difference. But had aleady added LAN to trusted network anyway.

Am I right that the router doesn't need any additional configuration to allow network traffic on the LAN side to talk to each other...? Therefore in theory at least, the PC & laptop should be able to talk to the printer...

If it makes any odds, the printer is a Lexmark X9350 & support on Lexmark site is rubbish. Tried emailing, but no response yet.

Many thanks for any suggestions

Hi!

Don't know if you still have this websites problem, but if so - go to firewall settings in SDM - application security and change 'HTTP non-compliant traffic' to pass.

Hope it helps,

Kamil

Wink

Many thanks for the reply - the problem is connectivity on a wireless LAN between laptop and printer, and yes it's still a problem...I'd like to ditch the USB cable but can't at the moment!

Anyway if you have any ideas, already had the setting you suggested above, then please let me know as I've exhausted the limits of my router and networking understanding. Plus don't want to spend hours on the phone to 'techies', Lexmark only offer phone support, who don't know any more than me!

thanks
Simon
