MOS study material

Hello,

my wife wants to be certified in Microsoft Office products, Id like to know what is the best study material. Do I have to buy book for each software? word,excel etc.

Also how can I find an exam centre in the uk.

Well a good start would be something like CLAIT or the European Computer Driving Licence.
Both taught at most colleges as either day or evening classes.

If you Wife wants to specialise just in Microsoft Office then the Microsoft Office User Specialist course is for her.
But MOUS is hard and you do need a good grounding in the MS Office package’s before starting it.
As for software you would need to get the package that offers all the products your wife is likely to be using.
Sometimes Student software is an option.

Yah, Microsoft Office User Specialist course sounds right, any specific books I need to buy? Is it possible to do home study for the exam? Then go take exam, I dont want to pay extra to attend a course.

I did my MOUS through a local college & hence books were cheaper to get.

Why does you wife want to take MOUS as their are other courses like ECDL that are more sought after in business.
MOUS will only be any good if your wife decides to teach or work within a setting were MS Office is supported, mostly in Adult or Higher Education College's.

Suggest you look HERE or HERE for info and HERE & HERE for books on the subject.
But i would reall advise your wife to do it through a local college, unless she is really good already.
Exam fees & books are cheaper for a start!

Hmm Ive taken a look at ECDL and it seems a good entry level cert for admin work, gona find some study material and cost of exams now :o

To do the ECDL you have to register at a centre that does it & the tests. Learndirect do the ECDL, & its done as interactive modules, so youll need to either go to the centre or do it online. Tests then have to be done at a centre.

Microsoft are the only providers of certification for MS Office. The MOS courses are done at authorised training centres, & will include the workbook, trial of office etc.

What does you wife want to do when she gets a qualification?
ECDL for example is championed by the NHS as an entry level for all staff to attain.
MOUS is more aimed at staff wishing to teach or who use MS Office daily & to a higher level than the average user.

Incidently - you *don't* need to do a course for ECDL. It perfectly possible to study at home and just take the exams at a centre.

This is how I got mine.

And there are 'advanced' versions of the exams for those who want to go further in the main Office apps.

Yah, studying for a simple cert like this should always be home study from a book for less than £20,

These are the books I used while studying for it. She will know each product like a guru by the time she has gone though the book and done the exercising in them. I was in school when I did these and everyone that sat the test from my class passed the mos. We study office 2000. I don't know which office you have but here are the ones for the 2007. I love them, but your not going to get them for 20 bucks. Sorry. Although you might look on ebay for them. Just make sure you get the Comprehensive ones they have all the extra details. There is usually more then one way to accomplish something in office. The comprehensives ones show you this. The complete or introduction ones are not deep enough to pass the pass mos.
