this is a problem i was expecting from some of our VMware users
I will have a PDF ammendment made by tomorrow with the steps to take in XF86config
but see if you can do it without that for now
click yes a few times on those errors
it will take you back to a console
login as root
password: whatever you set it to
run xf86config
it will be a text based script that talks you through configuring X
mouse is 1 : auto
keyboard is likely to be 4 or 5 : Standard 105 key (Intl)
so jump thru those, when you get to a question asking if you want to view the graphics card database type [yes]
you want number 29 (at last check) VMWare GFX card
then continue on, follow the instructions, press enter alot for defaults
set the screen res and such
then save the file (type yes, dont just hit enter, or it wont save)
I enter yes at the 'try to start X server' and it retries.
I enter my password and then some text shoots down the screen, then it goes back to the 'cannot start X server message.'
Ok, I get to the correct command prompt, and enter the command, but it says the command isn't found.
I've had a google round to find answers, but haven't found anything.I can't really spend all night figuring this one out, so I'll await words of wisdom.
ok well can you move his first post down so that mine is still the first post, and move his above his reply?
or is that not possible either? lol

Sorry, not possible without manually messing around with the posts numbers in the database. It would be easier for you guys to start the thread again and delete this one. Sorry.
Well I bit the bullet the other night and installed the disks onto a new machine that I borrowed from work. A Pentium 2 500mhz (i think) 128 RAM. Everything went a dream. No problems, just accepted the default settings and now I am just waiting for Phoenix to start on the nitty gritty (when ever your ready my friend ).
Looking to join this to my workgroup (prob very easy).
Just a quick thought, can you RDP from XP to this Linux Distro (saves me sitting out in the hallway ).
Cheers All
AJ
Putting a computer in front of a child and expecting it to teach him is like putting a book under his pillow, only more expensive.
