DSL uptime

Hello,

Just a quickie for you.

Is it possible to view the uptime of an ADSL connection through the CLI?

If so, how is this done? Do you need to enable some sort of log or something??

Depends on the router. Most routers have a status page that often includes this info.

I can get loads of info about the dsl interface, eg attenuation, noise margin, etc etc, through the CLI but can't seem to find the DSL uptime.

Ah yes, I didn't think about the web interface. I'll take a look at that and see if there are any stats in there.

You could also mail your isp - not sure how long they would keep this information for. <cough> Harry?

You *could* - but most I suspect either wouldn't reply, or take so long as to make the answer meaningless. How long they keep such info will depend on the ISP - currently the thinking is about 1 year for legal reasons (RIPA).

And some will say 'look at the stats page on the router', which, IMHO, is the best way of discovering this.

I've been having issues with one of our ADSL lines at work. I think it may be solved now but I wanted to keep an eye on the uptime to see if the connection is still dropping out.

I think the problem was down to the router, so if I mailed the ISP they would probably say we have had 100% service, but this would not be true from our end due to the fault.
