Just find that I'm more of a visual learner, like many others.
ie, picture says a thousand words/ seeing is believing sort of approach to things.
I'd like to start incorporating screenshots. In my general technical posts and in lab partners where required.
I tried uploading a bmp screenshot but it was too big.The one shown above is a png file.
The problem with screenshots is your limited to the space we have, and it's a case of having to delete old files before using the space for a new post.
This can cause the problem whereby the screenshot becomes an elementary part of the post/following discussion. Not a problem when the screenshot is there, but once it is taken away, the post/following discussion may seem odd.
This isn't too much of a problem with a one off technical problem, specific to you, which other's may not be interested in.
With lab partners, if I manage to get it going again with some ideas, it would be better to leave the screenshots there for a good while.
I need to know how I can make screenshots take less space up.I only have MS paint, and am not generally good with graphics issues.
Also need to come up with a strategy of how we can use screenshots for lab partners with the space supplied.
You might want to find yourself some free web space if your planning on using more than a few images as you will quickly run out of attachment space. I would only really use the attachments feature when you want to quickly upload a file to the forum and you don't have an FTP program to hand.
Imageshack have a great service http://www.imageshack.us/ and one of the great features is that it will add the code needed to include the image in the forums so all you need to do is to copy and paste the code it provides into your posts.

Edit: Yes Jak, I had the screen on narrow and it was a bit odd.Still not right now it's on wide. There's a white bit around the edges of the first image from imageshock. The rest of the site looks fine on wide now though.
When you upload larger images it should create a link you can copy and paste that is a thumbnail size that will link to the larger image, that might be a better idea if you want to include a few images at once. It's no problem for us on broadband but the users on dial up may not appreciate having to download all the images in the thread. Just a throughout.
Also I'm not sure how they work the images if you dont sign up as a member, I didnt read that part anywhere. I wonder if the images get removed after so many days?
From what I've read Si, your uploaded pictures are kept for a minimum of 1 year, from the date last accessed.
I don't think you have to be a member for this.
By registering, you get more functionality, and I think it's free.
So it's probably worth a few mins to sign up.
Edit: I don't know how to edit my above posts to turn the pictures into thumbnails, because when I click edit I don't see the source code.
Any ideas?
Edit: Ok, doh me sorted it.Just cut the pictures out.Are the new thumbnail sizes ok?
