I am having to delay my recertification due to my Mother being diagnosed with Parkinsons disease and MSA (something to do with brittle bones and muscle weakness) which seem pretty agressive at the moment. The Doctors and medical people are still trying to get the medication balance correct. So she is needing a lot of care to help her do things.

I was planning on doing the 70-270 before January as that is when my voucher expires. I seriousley doubt that I will be ready for it by January as I think it may be two months maybe even three before I can do the N+ recertification.

My question is what do I do about the voucher I have in the MS press book when it expires? Can I exchange it for a valid one or something?

I had to re-post this, after getting zero replies in the general forum, so it is not to be considered as spam.

There' a bit of confusion again in my mind regarding my degree in Computer Science and my current certification track.

I'm currently pursuing B.E (Bachelors of Engineering, Computer Science).
Regarding certification track, i CANNOT pursue MCSE as i'm not having the required experience (if i get that later while working, i may pursue it). I've to finish my MCDST by the end of this year( 70-272 is still left), the moving onto the MCSA track ( MCTS (vista), that also gives MCITP) and the 2 core MCSA exams. That's the most i can do in the next 2 years.

And by that time, i would be finishing off my degree as well. Is a degree in Computer science with MCSA is good enough for a decent job? My main interest is in three things:- Operating Systems, Networks (Security) and some programming. I've hands on experience in my family's office network, however it can only lead me to completing MCSA as the network is quite small and most of the time i'm at college in a different city.

I'm also thinking about doing network certifications, starting from the basic to build some foundation (proved by the certificate) and then moving onto CEH (yes, i love security)

I've heard people say that it's better to do some entry level tech work while getting a degree and then apply for jobs after you're done with it. In my degree we're supposed to do two trainings at different companies but that does not count towards job experience.

Based on the interests, what sort of job roles will i be eligible to apply for? Secondly, is doing a Master's degree worth it after completing Bachelors. I'm not that interested in theories and stuff. I would rather gain some more working experience and pursue higher certifications.

Advice needed

Thanks in advance

Is that just the way it is? No certificate or nowt?? :x

Mind you I'm a bit bothered because 70-293 is not on the list of elective modules for the MCSA. Surely my college can't have got it wrong?

Hi all,

Not sure if this is really the right place to post it but I figure it's where people come for advice on training and whatnot so figure it's a good a place as any.

Basically; I'm looking for a laptop that I can use for studying. My budget is around £600 - £700 and I'm just looking for something reasonably big (around 15 - 17) with a good aspect ratio (not a fan of the 1366 x 768 or whatever it is). I went down a similar line a few months back and ending up going with a Samsung R580 but found I regretted my decision because of the screen size/aspect ratio.

I'm not an avid gamer nor movie watcher (have my Media Centre for that) so I'm really just looking for a good processor that can handle a few virtual sessions at a time.

Does anybody have a similar setup that they can recommend?

I'm currently studying Configuring Windows 7 (70-680) and messing around with Server 2008 R2, MDT, WDS, etc.

Hello all,

I've just started out studying for my CCENT. Delving into this a bit at work since the turn of the year (since one of the network engineers got the boot!). I mainly do system/server admininstration currently, and the manager asked would I be up for doing more network admin work. I thought 'cool'. But I wonder what I've let myself in for :-). I suppose it'll make me a more rounded IT support person, so I shouldn't complain. Gone through the basics with the guys about configuring switches, but it would be nice to get the commands burned in my brain so to speak.

So, any recommendations for study material? I hear good things about the CBT Nuggets vid training. I do learn better visually rather than reading from a book, but I won't dismiss reading one. I know a home lab is probably better than router simulations, but which of the ones would you go for? And lastly, how much does the exam cost currently? I might do it out of my own pocket, but will sound out work first about paying for the exam.

Strange thing is that in my last job (left there July '09 - mainly did 2nd line desktop support), the senior network engineer asked if I wanted a couple of Catalyst 3560 Series switches (I think that's what they were), an IP phone and a 800 series router to take home. I knocked him back because I didn't think I'd be doing any network admin work, only server :-(! Plus the mrs wouldn't have been too happy with me taking up more room in the house with my 'computer stuff' as she puts it, lol! Oh how I regret that decision. Anybody got a time machine so I can go back 13 months? :-)

Cheers
