Here, on really busy streets, crossing guards are usually retired folks who help the kids across the street. In the "burbs", kids themselves (sixth graders) fill the role (this always scared me a little bit, but I guess it teaches the kids a sense of responsibility). Thanks for sharing the links, J.R.
